Kanta Kochhar, Ph.D.
Researcher/ Writer - ‘The Body Remembers the Mountain’
Choreographer / Director / Curator for In the Blue Houses Dream the Mountains
An Indian-American and hard-of-hearing choreographer, filmmaker, poet, educator, and Performance Studies scholar, the Founding Director of Folded Paper Dance and Theatre Limited (Hong Kong; Seattle; India), Kanta Kochhar is launching Wild Studios Consulting & Creative Productions, committed to the development of new transdisciplinary practices for our shared futures. She has authored numerous works on performance, disability, ecology, and heritage; produced conferences, symposia, interactive installations, and community events; taught a wide range of Interdisciplinary Studies courses and facilitated workshops and professional development training programmes; and created, choreographed, and directed numerous performances in the US, Europe, and Asia. Her methodology, a combination of ethnography, experimental writing, dance arts, and design practices, critical theory, and storytelling, focuses on how the multisensory can inform a future-looking approach to accessible cultural heritage practices and arts for all through both live and virtual platforms as it expands our capacities to listen to each other and to the earth.
Dr. Kochhar has received numerous awards, including a Fulbright-Nehru Senior Scholar Award (Kerala, India: 2022-2023; Kerala, India: 2017-2018); Hong Kong Arts Development Council Project Grant (2021); Design Trust (Hong Kong: 2022; 2016-2017); Barbican Art School Lab Fellowship (London: 2012); Co-editor/Editor of Theatre Topics (2007-2011); NEH Summer Institute (Disability Studies, 2000); DAAD Award (Disability and the Legacy of Eugenics, 2004); and Artistic Residencies in Middle Tennessee State University (2012); Orissa, India (2011); and Turin, Italy (2010). She is also the author of Hearing Difference: The Third Ear in Experimental, Deaf, and Multicultural Theatre; the lead-editor of The Exquisite Corpse: Chance and Collaboration in Surrealism’s Parlor Game; and former editor of Theatre Topics. Her current writing projects include South Asian Disability and Deaf Theatres (under contract with Routledge); Traveling Exchanges; Ensembles of Innovation; and “The Komagata Maru Incident: Afro-Asian Futurisms.”
With a Ph.D. in Performance Studies from NYU, Kochhar earned her MFA in Dance from the University of North Carolina-Greensboro; her Certificate in Movement Analysis from the Laban/Bartenieff Institute of Movement Studies in New York; an MALS from Wesleyan University (CT); and an undergraduate degree in psychology from Antioch College (Yellow Springs, Ohio). Before moving in other directions, she was tenured as Associate Professor in the School of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences at the University of Washington: Bothell, where she served as both the Co-Director of the Cultural Studies Collective and the Director of the Chancellor’s 2013 Innovation Forum.

Guru Kalamandalam Rama Chakyar
Research Collaborator, Kutiyattam Exponent
Kalamandalam Rama Chakyar has a legacy of three generations to claim in the traditional Sanskrit theater of Kerala Kutiyattam. He followed the footsteps of his grandfather Guru Ammannur Chachu Chakyar and his father Guru Ammannur Parameshwara Chakyar and became a master in Kutiyattam very early in his life. He started his training in Kutiyattam as early as nine years from home in the traditional way- the gurukula sampradayam. He joined Kerala Kalamandalam when he was 15 for institutional learning. He was the first student of Kutiyattam when the faculty for Kutiyattam was launched under the graceful leadership of Painkulam Rama Chakyar. He has also received training under Ammannur Madhava Chakyar and Kidangoor Rama Chakyar.
Performing since 1970, he is a popular presence in national and international performance circuits. He is the sole Kutiyattam exponent who performs all the significant roles of Kutiyattam and the entire repertories of Chakyar Koothu. His international collaborations include performance for festivals of India, Kerala Kalamandalam tours and private tours, and an appointment as a visiting professor at Stony Brook University, USA. Since 1975, he has been a trainer-performer in the faculty of Kutiyattam of Kerala Kalamandalam. He has choreographed and staged classics like Bhasa's "Dootha Vakyam,” Harshavardhanan's "Naganandam" II Act, and Kalidasan's "Swapnavasavadattam." He has translated Shakthibhadra's "Ascharya Choodamani" from Sanskrit to Malayalam. He has also presented and published several academic papers on Kutiyattam.
He has served in several academic and administerial roles. The General Council member (from Kerala) of Sangeet Natak Akademi, Delhi; expert member of the review committee of the Kutiyattam Kendra; Member of the Board of Studies of Sree Sankaracharya University, Kalady; Faculty of Fine Arts, Calicut University; and Advisory Committee member of Kutiyattam Kendra of Sangeet Natak Academy, Delhi are among his most notable roles. His major recognitions and honors include the Kanchi Kamakoti Puraskar in 1971; Margi Gold Medal in 1971; Margi Gold Shield in 1973; Kerala Kalamandalam Award in 2007; State Sangeetha Nadaka Academy Award in 2009; Central Sangeet Natak Academy Award in 2010; Keraleeya Nrithya Natya Puraskar, (which is the highest honor of the State government in 2013); Mannarashala Nagaraja Puraskar in 2018; Sandipani Puraskar in 2023; and the Prathama Athma Mithra Award by Vaidyarathnam in 2023.
Kalamandalam Jishnu Prathap
Kutiyattam Artist
Kalamandalam Jishnu Prathap is a talented and notable person among the young Kutiyattam artists in Kerala. His alma-mater is Kerala Kalamandalam, Deemed University for Art and Culture. There, he was blessed to be the disciple of maestros of Kutiyattam, Kalamandalam Ramachakyar and Padmasree Kalamandalam Sivan Namboothiri He started learning Kutiyattam and Chakyarkoothu at the age of twelve alongside his school education and completed a Master’s degree in 2012. Prathap has deftly essayed wide range of roles in Kutiyattam; he is a specialist in enacting certain roles that requires Satvika-Abhinaya such as Ravana, Arjuna, Sugreeva and Jadayu. In addition to the "Prabandhakkoothu," Jishnu is equally adept at performing "Vidooshaka" roles in Bhagavadajjukam and Subhadradhananjayam, which require verbal dexterity, spontaneity, and a great sense of humour.
Jishnu Prathap is a thorough-going artist who stands equally in artistic and academic field. He worked as a guest lecturer in the Department of Kutiyattam at Kerala Kalamandalam for 2 years. In 2015 he established Rangadhwani – A Centre for Kutiyattam at Harippad (Alappuzha) to promote and enlighten Kutiyattam and Mizhavu.
His achievements include being a recipient of Junior Fellowship from Ministry of Culture, Government of India and the Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademy Award for Excellence in Kutiyattam. Other major awards inlcude Painkulam Ramachakyar Award from Kerala Kalamandalam and Kalasagar Puraskar.
Abheeshta Nath JR
Kutiyattam, Kalaripayattu, Theatre Artist
Abheeshta Nath J R is an academician by profession. Theatre and performing arts are her passion. She is trained in Nangiarkuthu and Southern style Kalaripayattu. She has been part of a number of international psychophysical theater workshops and workshop productions, such as with John Britton, Anna Helena MacLean, and Instabili Vaganti. She has performed Nangiarkuthu in prestigious venues like Natyamasikam of Kendra Sangeeth Natak Academy in association with Kutiyattam Kendra. She has won national level championships in women’s category for Kalaripayattu. She nurtures a special interest for Baul music as well.
Anupam Tiwari
Theatre Artist
Coming from a small town in Madhya Pradesh, Anupam Tiwari completed his postgraduate studies in performing arts at Hyderabad Central University. Tiwari works as a freelance contemporary dancer, actor, and singer. For the past 8 years, he has been a part of IPTA (Indian People’s Theatre Association) and he has conducted workshops, directed plays, and acted in different roles. He has traveled to a number of states throughout India to take acting classes and perform plays with various theatre groups and new individuals. He has participated in different acting and body movements workshops to train himself to become a flexible actor.
Mruthul C.M
Contemporary Dance Artist
Mruthul C.M is a freelance dance artist who is currently exploring and experimenting with movement while specializing in contemporary dance. He collaborated with different artists and actors in the Indian Film industry. Besides performing as a core member in December Dance Festival in Kerala, he taught dance in organizations such as Myself and Mymoves, the largest dance community in Kerala, PRANA, an online dance platform, and others. In addition to being a black belt in SHOTOKAN KARATE, he has also trained in Bharatanatyam and yoga, hip hop, litefeet, breaking, locking, house, and krump from both national and international artists. Furthermore, he has worked as an actor, model and choreographer.
Rohit Xavier
Theater Artist, Stage Manager
Rohit Xavier is a versatile theatre professional hailing from Kerala and Pondicherry. With a background in Economics, he followed his passion for theatre, earning a bachelor’s degree in Theatre Arts from the School of Drama in Thrissur, Kerala. He is currently pursuing a Master's in Performing Arts at Pondicherry Central University. Sine Rohit's theatrical journey began in 2017, he has been an actor, designer, director, and writer and contributed his talents to nearly 60 productions. He's also a co-founder of Urab Theatre Company, an active member of the Auroville Theatre Group, and has dabbled in film acting and translation work. Rohit's multifaceted skills and unwavering dedication enrich every project he undertakes.

Theater & Kalaripayattu Artist
Subheesh ES is a multifaceted theatre artist who comes from an impressive and diverse educational background. He is a graduate from the School of Drama, Thrissur, where he honed his acting skills. Taking his passion further, he pursued a postgraduate degree in Drama from the same institute. He next completed a rigorous three-year diploma course in film acting at the esteemed K.R Narayanan Institute of Visual Science and Arts. This equipped him not only as an actor, but also as a director and acting coach. Following that graduation, he embarked on his professional career and emerged as a renowned actor. His dedication to arts and culture has also led him to a significant role as the District Coordinator of the ongoing Diamond Jubilee Fellowship program, a prestigious initiative under the Department of Cultural affairs, Government of Kerala.
Syam Sasikumar
Poothan Thira Artist
Syam Sasikumar, a native of Palakkad, is a performing artist, actor, and director. He is a skilled performer of Poothan-Thira, a traditional cultural art form performed in Bhagavathi temples across Western Palakkad, Kerala. His family's heritage has a strong connection to the Poothan and Thira art form, making him a dedicated torchbearer of this cultural legacy. He pursued his formal education in BA English Literature at the University of Calicut, but his inclination towards acting began with school and college dramas, and eventually led him to the world of cinema both as an actor and a director. His recent project, "Randamonam," delves into the contemporary political landscape of Kerala, showcasing his prowess as an actor. Notable works in his portfolio include "Randamonam" (short film) and "Bhagavandasante Ramarajyam" (feature film).
Ajiesh Anto Ollukaran
Music Composer, Musician
Ajiesh Anto Ollukaran is a musician, music director and instructor based in Thrissur, Kerala. A member of the renowned bands Soulz and Rex, he served as the bassist and the backing vocals from 1997-2003 in Rez. Known for his standout works in music direction and production, he has worked with several distinguished people in the music and film industries. Since 2001, he also runs his music school, David School of Music.
Ajiesh has an extensive understanding of music in its theoretical, pedagogical and practical aspects. He has explored the world of music as a composer, performer, All India Radio-Graded Artist, instructor, and as a designer of his own instrument, the Sigtar—a combination of the Sitar and The Guitar. Notably, he has worked on the music in Malayalam movies such as Salala Mobiles, Ooha,Njan Marykutty, and Saira Banu.
Thrisha Sajeev
Vocalist
Thrisha Sajeev is a versatile and talented vocal artist with a passion for music and performance. She is experienced in singing various genres including classical, semi-classical, Western, and melody. She is proficient in delivering captivating and soulful performances. Thrisha has sung in a diverse range of albums, short films, and has even sung vocal tracks for movies. She has developed a strong stage presence and has also performed in numerous stage shows and concerts across India. She is known for her versatile singing style and ability to captivate audiences with her powerful vocals. She is passionate about music and is constantly exploring new genres and styles. She regularly performs at various open mic events across Kerala. She had participated in the prestigious ASISC Cultural Fest and emerged as the state winner in the Western Music category. Thrisha is currently seeking opportunities to further her career in the music industry and showcase her talent on a larger platform.
Anjohn Ajiesh
Musician
Anjohn Ajiesh has 7 years of professional experience in the music industry, with a focus on music programming and production. In his previous role at film production Ooha, he did additional programming for one of the songs. He has experience as a playback singer in the Malayalam film Kammatipaadam. He is a classically trained pianist with ABRSM Grade certification, a trained drummer with LCM Grade 8 distinction, and a Western classical singer with ABRSM Grade certification. He has over 7 years of experience playing the piano and drums and over 5 years of experience singing Western classical music. He is proficient in a variety of musical styles, including classical, jazz, and popular music. He is also a skilled sight-reader and accompanist. In addition, he has been invited to perform at the ABRSM High Scorers Concert, a prestigious event that recognizes the outstanding achievements of ABRSM exam candidates. When he was in seventh grade, he played piano for the band Soulz on the music show Music Mojo on Kappa TV. It was an unforgettable experience that sparked his passion for music.
K R Narayanan
Malayalam Translator, Dramaturg
K. R. Narayanan Chakkiar is a writer and patronage of Kerala performing arts. He graduated in Chemistry from Kerala University, followed by an experience in Pharmaceutical Marketing for more than 4 decades. His strong background in traditional performing art forms of Kerala came through his late father, Kidangoor Raman Chakkiar, exponent of Kutiyattam and recipient of Central Sangeet Nataka Akademi Award (2004), State Govt's Nrithya Natya Puraskar (2011). Narayanan toured extensively leading Kutiyattam troupes in major Indian cities and also to the USA. He has also organized many cultural events. Presently, Narayanan is the Executive Committee member of Thrissur Kathakali Club and Joint Secretary of a cultural organization named "Bharatham." He continues in contributing articles to various vernacular publications about performing arts of Kerala.
Sreekumar Kakkad
Malayalam Translator
Sreekumar Kakkad is an art and literature enthusiast from Kozhikode, Kerala. He completed his Master’s in English Literature and then had a long career in the media field. He was the former producer for news and agriculture in Dooradarshan. Currently, he is a freelance content creator for print as well as visual media. He specializes in areas related to video, sound and graphics production.
CP Mohanan
Visual Artist, Designer
CP Mohanan is an artist known for his creative designs and expertise in scenic design for theater and public events. His artistic works include graphics, painting, sculpting, and illustration. He is known for his large-scale sculptural installations and stage design in major public events of Kerala. One of his favorite works was an art project on an Argentinian novel which was part of the 2018 Kochi-Muziris Biennale. Another notable work is his collaboration with renowned artist and curator Bose Kirshnamachari. He made miniature sculptures for his studio in Mumbai. Many materials like cement, plaster of Paris, wood, foam sheet, cloth, and rug become works of art in the skillful hands of CP Mohanan.

Designer, Film maker
Sreenayan Rathan, a recent graduate in architecture from Avani Institute of Design (2022), is an artist whose creative journey has been shaped by a unique blend of experiences. During his architecture education, he discovered his affinity for exploring colors through various graphic art forms and different styles of drawings. He played a key role in the 'Uruvam' community art project, and he has contributed to the creation of a sculpture installation. From 2018 to 2022, Sreenayan was an integral part of the Avani graphics team with some of his works published by the Institute.

Designer, Filmmaker
Nithin Balu is a versatile creative professional renowned for his expertise in photography, video editing, and filmmaking. He has a strong educational foundation with a Master’s in electronic media from Pondicherry University and a Bachelor's degree in English Language and Literature. He has honed his skills to bring stories to life through visual narratives. Nithin's impressive career is punctuated by collaborations with prestigious institutions and projects, including the International Theatre Festival of Kerala, IIT Roorkee, Kerala's Agriculture Department, and the Forest and Wildlife Department of Kerala. His unwavering commitment to his craft is showcased in his expansive portfolio, which spans a diverse spectrum of content, encompassing educational videos, documentaries, and promotional material. Nithin's ability to fuse technical excellence with creative vision makes him a sought-after talent in the realm of multimedia production. In essence, his work stands as a testament to his dedication and skill in the art of visual storytelling.
Pournami Chandra

Pournami Chandra is a freelance designer and artist who recently completed her formal architectural education at the Avani Institute of Design in Kerala, graduating in 2022. Her intellectual and creative endeavors span diverse mediums, including art, architecture, literature, research, film, and photography. Pournami is interested in redefining architecture as a way of thinking that works effectively to nurture the interconnectedness of creative practices of varied disciplines. She is currently engaged in multidisciplinary explorations for developing a practice aimed at creating tools for future socio-cultural changes. Her academic journey in architecture school is complemented by her roles as the Editorial Secretary of the Avani Student Council, coordinator for the 'Uruvam Community Art Project,' and designer for the Avani Graphics Team. Currently, she balances her freelance design work with her other personal creative pursuits.
Tejus Asha Rajan
Technical Director, Production Manager, & Lighting Designer
Tejus Asha Rajan is a versatile artist with a rich background in various aspects of the visual arts. From a foundation in experimental theatre and traditional art forms, including Kathakali and classical dance, he evolved into a skilled cinematographer, photographer, editor, and technical coordinator for theatre and film.
His educational background includes a Master's degree in Film Studies and PG Diploma in Cinematography, and he has actively participated in workshops and performances throughout his career. Tejus's extensive portfolio includes short films, theatre productions, and feature films. His passion for visual storytelling continues to drive him as he explores new horizons in the world of media and the performing arts.
Vishnu Shaari
Designer
Vishnu Shaari has substantial experience in art design for cinema and theatre. He completed his undergraduate as well as master’s degree in theatre arts from School of Drama, University of Calicut. Apart from his enthusiasm in theatre, being an ardent movie buff, he has unique taste in cinema, which have helped him being creative in the movie projects he participated in. He has worked in more than sixteen movie projects in Malayalam. Pulimada, Kurup, John Luther, Kumara Sambhavam, and Queen, are his notable ventures. He has collaborated with eminent emerging directors from Malayalam film industry such as Ratheesh Balakrishna Pothuval, AK Sajan, Srinath Rajendran, Rathish Ambat, and V C Abhilash. Apart from his endeavors in cinema, he has participated extensively in theatre productions as well. In theater, he has collaborated with the Public Relation Department of Govt. of Kerala and Nireeksha Women’s Theatre. Vishnu has also conducted various workshops for children covering different aspects of scenic design for theatre funded by Kerala Government Fellowship. Apart from his collaboration in the art department for international advertising agencies, he has worked in commercials in regional language for Malayalam Television channels. Mazhavil Manorama and Flowers TV are some notable television channels he worked with. A notable achievement is his participation in the art department for a telecast for 12 continuous hours by Flowers TV which claimed a Guinness world record. He also writes for screen and stage.
Anand Sachin
Coordinator for the Accessible Theatres Project, Audio Describer, Research Assistant
Anand Sachin is a student of philosophy currently pursuing PhD in Sree Sankaracharya Sanskrit University, Kalady. His areas of interest include Expanded Cinema, Philosophy of Shamanism, and Psychedelia. He completed a Master’s in philosophy from North Eastern Hills University, Shillong; and another Masters in Arts and Aesthetics from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. He has assisted in research for two documentary projects, one on the cult of Mother Goddess in India for a Pune based production company, another on women practitioners of Kalarippayattu for a Swiss production company. He has penned articles for various journals and magazines in English and Malayalam, in a spectrum of themes ranging from philosophy of Cinema, Mysticism and Religion. He has worked as assistant director for film projects and also participated in theatre productions. His present curiosity is in ancient Chinese philosophy. He is fascinated by the philosophy of Tao, and he finds congruences of it with the Samkhya school of thought in Indian Philosophy. His current favorite books include I-Ching, Tao Te Ching by Lao Tsu, and Art of War by Sun Tsu.
Livin C Lonakutty
Indian Sign Language Interpreter
Livin C. Lonakutty is an Indian Sign Language interpreter. He hails from Thrissur and is among the first few RCI certified ISL interpreters from Kerala. Since 2016 he has been working with Deaf communities. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature and History from Calicut University, Kerala. After completing a Postgraduate Diploma course in Indian Sign Language from Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam, Kerala, he earned A, B and C level certificates in Indian Sign Language Interpreting. He also holds a Master of Social Work degree from Tamil Nadu Open University. He has worked with the Deaf community in more than five states of India. He has been providing sign language services in the fields of education, culture, health, and law. He also served in different Deaf Associations, Sathyabama Institute of Science and Technology, and Govt. Polytechnic College, Kalamassery as an interpreter. He is best known for training Bollywood actress Aditi Rao Hydari in the Malayalam film Sufiyum Sujathayum, and he has also shown his prowess in short screenwriting. He won best screenwriter awards at more than five reputed short film festivals, including the Satyajit Rai International Documentary and Short Film Festival.

Venue and Accessible Theater Program Collaboration
School of Drama & Fine Arts, University of Calicut was established in 1977 is a prime institution in India giving academic training in the theatrical and practical aspects of Drama & Theatre. This institution offers B.T.A. (Bachelor of Theatre Arts), M.T.A. (Master of Theatre Arts), M.A. (Music) and M.Phil/Ph.D. The students are exposed to the glorious history of Theatre and different schools of Theatre Practice. The creative aspects of performing arts such as Play Writing, Acting, Direction, Technical Designing, etc. are the thrust areas in the teaching process. Our Classical and Folk traditions are explored here along with the present global trends in contemporary drama. The school organizes international placements. The productions of the School as well as its Alumni now create a new visual idiom and sensibility in Theatre, Film, Media and Academics. G. Sankara Pillai, S. Ramanujam, Kavalam Narayan Panicker, Vayala Vadudevan Pillai, G. Kumara Verma, Venu G, Mokeri Ramachandran, Jalaja Vama, Shibu S. Kottaram, Smt. Najumul Shahi, Vinod Narayanan, S. Sunil, and Sri. Sreejith Ramanan are illustrious personalities who were / are leading forces of the department.
School of Drama is responsible for initiating the modern and contemporary visual language of Malayalam Theatre & film and created a niche in international platforms of theatre and film. By exploring our rich classical and folk tradition, the school of drama produced important theatre productions in the scenario for Indian and world theatre. Department organizes extension programs like workshops for school and university students in national level, physically and mentally differently abled, child homes, correction home, mental health centers and professional and amateur theatre practitioners.
“CULT” - Calicut University Little Theatre is the repertory of the department which produce plays annually and perform in interior areas and important festivals by accommodating alumni. “CART” Children’s Art and Recreational Theatre is a residential workshop for children organized as an annual event. They have had numerous international collaborations with theatre departments and companies of the U.K, United States, Europe, Africa, Asian and South Asian countries. Collaboration with Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademy, in conducting the International theatre festival of Kerala, each year is a prime professional activity of the department. The department collaborated with Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi for conducting a theatre workshop for “Transgenders” for the first time in India - 2018.
Natyashastra Rangapeedom, Katampazhipuram

Natyashastra was established in 1996 March, on the occasion of the 100th birth anniversary of prominent Renaissance leader and social reformer of Kerala, VT Bhattathirippad, by staging a play based on the autobiography of V.T. Bhattathirippad- "Kanneerum Kinavum '' at his birth place. Since then, in a span of 27 years, Natyashastra has created and produced more than twenty-five plays which were performed in numerous platforms including acclaimed theatre festivals inside and out of Kerala.
Natyashastra is also keen on organizing theatre festivals and individual shows of productions of other theatre troupes. Natyashastra have initiated staging of traditional performing art forms like Kuiyattam, Kathakali, and various folk forms. Other cultural programs include film festivals, seminars, percussion instrument festivals, talks, fine art exhibitions. Natyashastra’s permanent performance space “Rangapeetam” had been the platform for these events.
World renowned theatre personalities like Maya Tanberg, Habib Tanvir, Anuradha Kapur, Neelam Man Singh, Nagin Tanvir, Seema Biswas, S. Ramanujam, Kavalam Narayana Panikkar, and Vikram and notable personalities of theatre, Kathakali, and Kutiyattam from Kerala have been present in various programs at Natyashastra in Kadambazhippiram. Natyashastra has curated more than 300 performances in Kadambazhippuram in the span of 27 years, since its conception in 1996. Natyashastra is proud of being able to bring many prominent personalities active in contemporary theatre to the local audience. Natyashastra believes it has achieved to open a new horizon of theatre appreciation through these ventures.

Sopaanam & Sreelakam offers free enrichment programs to the community in chemistry, physics, mathematics, yoga, karate, classical Carnatic music, violin, drawing and painting, classical dances, folk music and dance of Kerala. Numerous programs such as Akshara Sloka Sadassu, poetry workshop, Onam and Christmas celebrations, table tennis and carroms, free medical check-ups, late Prof. Mundassery’s birthday celebrations, Carnatic music (both vocal and instrumental) concerts and Kadhakali performances, and Montessori style Anganwadi are all part of its activities. We also sponsored interdisciplinary quiz programs in several colleges on Nobel Laureates in science and Literature. We wanted to catalytically enhance the literacy in Kerala by expanding our activities with short time living facilities during training programs for students, teachers, and the general public. Our “Sreelakam” is intended to fulfill that dream. Recent recognition of Thrissur as a Learning City by UNESCO has provided further stimulus for our activities since 2010. We wanted to promote philanthropy for the growth of a society, and we have set an example by giving away all our assets to the community for promoting these educational and cultural activities.

An Indian-American and hard-of-hearing choreographer, filmmaker, poet, educator, and Performance Studies scholar, the Founding Director of Folded Paper Dance and Theatre Limited (Hong Kong; Seattle; India), Kanta Kochhar is launching Wild Studios Consulting & Creative Productions, committed to the development of new transdisciplinary practices for our shared futures. She has authored numerous works on performance, disability, ecology, and heritage; produced conferences, symposia, interactive installations, and community events; taught a wide range of Interdisciplinary Studies courses and facilitated workshops and professional development training programmes; and created, choreographed, and directed numerous performances in the US, Europe, and Asia. Her methodology, a combination of ethnography, experimental writing, dance arts, and design practices, critical theory, and storytelling, focuses on how the multisensory can inform a future-looking approach to accessible cultural heritage practices and arts for all through both live and virtual platforms as it expands our capacities to listen to each other and to the earth.
Dr. Kochhar has received numerous awards, including a Fulbright-Nehru Senior Scholar Award (Kerala, India: 2022-2023; Kerala, India: 2017-2018); Hong Kong Arts Development Council Project Grant (2021); Design Trust (Hong Kong: 2022; 2016-2017); Barbican Art School Lab Fellowship (London: 2012); Co-editor/Editor of Theatre Topics (2007-2011); NEH Summer Institute (Disability Studies, 2000); DAAD Award (Disability and the Legacy of Eugenics, 2004); and Artistic Residencies in Middle Tennessee State University (2012); Orissa, India (2011); and Turin, Italy (2010). She is also the author of Hearing Difference: The Third Ear in Experimental, Deaf, and Multicultural Theatre; the lead-editor of The Exquisite Corpse: Chance and Collaboration in Surrealism’s Parlor Game; and former editor of Theatre Topics. Her current writing projects include South Asian Disability and Deaf Theatres (under contract with Routledge); Traveling Exchanges; Ensembles of Innovation; and “The Komagata Maru Incident: Afro-Asian Futurisms.”
With a Ph.D. in Performance Studies from NYU, Kochhar earned her MFA in Dance from the University of North Carolina-Greensboro; her Certificate in Movement Analysis from the Laban/Bartenieff Institute of Movement Studies in New York; an MALS from Wesleyan University (CT); and an undergraduate degree in psychology from Antioch College (Yellow Springs, Ohio). Before moving in other directions, she was tenured as Associate Professor in the School of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences at the University of Washington: Bothell, where she served as both the Co-Director of the Cultural Studies Collective and the Director of the Chancellor’s 2013 Innovation Forum.

Guru Kalamandalam Rama Chakyar
Research Collaborator, Kutiyattam Exponent
Kalamandalam Rama Chakyar has a legacy of three generations to claim in the traditional Sanskrit theater of Kerala Kutiyattam. He followed the footsteps of his grandfather Guru Ammannur Chachu Chakyar and his father Guru Ammannur Parameshwara Chakyar and became a master in Kutiyattam very early in his life. He started his training in Kutiyattam as early as nine years from home in the traditional way- the gurukula sampradayam. He joined Kerala Kalamandalam when he was 15 for institutional learning. He was the first student of Kutiyattam when the faculty for Kutiyattam was launched under the graceful leadership of Painkulam Rama Chakyar. He has also received training under Ammannur Madhava Chakyar and Kidangoor Rama Chakyar.
Performing since 1970, he is a popular presence in national and international performance circuits. He is the sole Kutiyattam exponent who performs all the significant roles of Kutiyattam and the entire repertories of Chakyar Koothu. His international collaborations include performance for festivals of India, Kerala Kalamandalam tours and private tours, and an appointment as a visiting professor at Stony Brook University, USA. Since 1975, he has been a trainer-performer in the faculty of Kutiyattam of Kerala Kalamandalam. He has choreographed and staged classics like Bhasa's "Dootha Vakyam,” Harshavardhanan's "Naganandam" II Act, and Kalidasan's "Swapnavasavadattam." He has translated Shakthibhadra's "Ascharya Choodamani" from Sanskrit to Malayalam. He has also presented and published several academic papers on Kutiyattam.
He has served in several academic and administerial roles. The General Council member (from Kerala) of Sangeet Natak Akademi, Delhi; expert member of the review committee of the Kutiyattam Kendra; Member of the Board of Studies of Sree Sankaracharya University, Kalady; Faculty of Fine Arts, Calicut University; and Advisory Committee member of Kutiyattam Kendra of Sangeet Natak Academy, Delhi are among his most notable roles. His major recognitions and honors include the Kanchi Kamakoti Puraskar in 1971; Margi Gold Medal in 1971; Margi Gold Shield in 1973; Kerala Kalamandalam Award in 2007; State Sangeetha Nadaka Academy Award in 2009; Central Sangeet Natak Academy Award in 2010; Keraleeya Nrithya Natya Puraskar, (which is the highest honor of the State government in 2013); Mannarashala Nagaraja Puraskar in 2018; Sandipani Puraskar in 2023; and the Prathama Athma Mithra Award by Vaidyarathnam in 2023.

Kalamandalam Jishnu Prathap is a talented and notable person among the young Kutiyattam artists in Kerala. His alma-mater is Kerala Kalamandalam, Deemed University for Art and Culture. There, he was blessed to be the disciple of maestros of Kutiyattam, Kalamandalam Ramachakyar and Padmasree Kalamandalam Sivan Namboothiri He started learning Kutiyattam and Chakyarkoothu at the age of twelve alongside his school education and completed a Master’s degree in 2012. Prathap has deftly essayed wide range of roles in Kutiyattam; he is a specialist in enacting certain roles that requires Satvika-Abhinaya such as Ravana, Arjuna, Sugreeva and Jadayu. In addition to the "Prabandhakkoothu," Jishnu is equally adept at performing "Vidooshaka" roles in Bhagavadajjukam and Subhadradhananjayam, which require verbal dexterity, spontaneity, and a great sense of humour.
Jishnu Prathap is a thorough-going artist who stands equally in artistic and academic field. He worked as a guest lecturer in the Department of Kutiyattam at Kerala Kalamandalam for 2 years. In 2015 he established Rangadhwani – A Centre for Kutiyattam at Harippad (Alappuzha) to promote and enlighten Kutiyattam and Mizhavu.
His achievements include being a recipient of Junior Fellowship from Ministry of Culture, Government of India and the Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademy Award for Excellence in Kutiyattam. Other major awards inlcude Painkulam Ramachakyar Award from Kerala Kalamandalam and Kalasagar Puraskar.
Abheeshta Nath JR

Abheeshta Nath J R is an academician by profession. Theatre and performing arts are her passion. She is trained in Nangiarkuthu and Southern style Kalaripayattu. She has been part of a number of international psychophysical theater workshops and workshop productions, such as with John Britton, Anna Helena MacLean, and Instabili Vaganti. She has performed Nangiarkuthu in prestigious venues like Natyamasikam of Kendra Sangeeth Natak Academy in association with Kutiyattam Kendra. She has won national level championships in women’s category for Kalaripayattu. She nurtures a special interest for Baul music as well.

Coming from a small town in Madhya Pradesh, Anupam Tiwari completed his postgraduate studies in performing arts at Hyderabad Central University. Tiwari works as a freelance contemporary dancer, actor, and singer. For the past 8 years, he has been a part of IPTA (Indian People’s Theatre Association) and he has conducted workshops, directed plays, and acted in different roles. He has traveled to a number of states throughout India to take acting classes and perform plays with various theatre groups and new individuals. He has participated in different acting and body movements workshops to train himself to become a flexible actor.
Mruthul C.M
Contemporary Dance Artist
Mruthul C.M is a freelance dance artist who is currently exploring and experimenting with movement while specializing in contemporary dance. He collaborated with different artists and actors in the Indian Film industry. Besides performing as a core member in December Dance Festival in Kerala, he taught dance in organizations such as Myself and Mymoves, the largest dance community in Kerala, PRANA, an online dance platform, and others. In addition to being a black belt in SHOTOKAN KARATE, he has also trained in Bharatanatyam and yoga, hip hop, litefeet, breaking, locking, house, and krump from both national and international artists. Furthermore, he has worked as an actor, model and choreographer.

Rohit Xavier is a versatile theatre professional hailing from Kerala and Pondicherry. With a background in Economics, he followed his passion for theatre, earning a bachelor’s degree in Theatre Arts from the School of Drama in Thrissur, Kerala. He is currently pursuing a Master's in Performing Arts at Pondicherry Central University. Sine Rohit's theatrical journey began in 2017, he has been an actor, designer, director, and writer and contributed his talents to nearly 60 productions. He's also a co-founder of Urab Theatre Company, an active member of the Auroville Theatre Group, and has dabbled in film acting and translation work. Rohit's multifaceted skills and unwavering dedication enrich every project he undertakes.

Subheesh ES is a multifaceted theatre artist who comes from an impressive and diverse educational background. He is a graduate from the School of Drama, Thrissur, where he honed his acting skills. Taking his passion further, he pursued a postgraduate degree in Drama from the same institute. He next completed a rigorous three-year diploma course in film acting at the esteemed K.R Narayanan Institute of Visual Science and Arts. This equipped him not only as an actor, but also as a director and acting coach. Following that graduation, he embarked on his professional career and emerged as a renowned actor. His dedication to arts and culture has also led him to a significant role as the District Coordinator of the ongoing Diamond Jubilee Fellowship program, a prestigious initiative under the Department of Cultural affairs, Government of Kerala.

Syam Sasikumar, a native of Palakkad, is a performing artist, actor, and director. He is a skilled performer of Poothan-Thira, a traditional cultural art form performed in Bhagavathi temples across Western Palakkad, Kerala. His family's heritage has a strong connection to the Poothan and Thira art form, making him a dedicated torchbearer of this cultural legacy. He pursued his formal education in BA English Literature at the University of Calicut, but his inclination towards acting began with school and college dramas, and eventually led him to the world of cinema both as an actor and a director. His recent project, "Randamonam," delves into the contemporary political landscape of Kerala, showcasing his prowess as an actor. Notable works in his portfolio include "Randamonam" (short film) and "Bhagavandasante Ramarajyam" (feature film).
Ajiesh Anto Ollukaran

Ajiesh Anto Ollukaran is a musician, music director and instructor based in Thrissur, Kerala. A member of the renowned bands Soulz and Rex, he served as the bassist and the backing vocals from 1997-2003 in Rez. Known for his standout works in music direction and production, he has worked with several distinguished people in the music and film industries. Since 2001, he also runs his music school, David School of Music.
Ajiesh has an extensive understanding of music in its theoretical, pedagogical and practical aspects. He has explored the world of music as a composer, performer, All India Radio-Graded Artist, instructor, and as a designer of his own instrument, the Sigtar—a combination of the Sitar and The Guitar. Notably, he has worked on the music in Malayalam movies such as Salala Mobiles, Ooha,Njan Marykutty, and Saira Banu.

She has developed a strong stage presence and has also performed in numerous stage shows and concerts across India. She regularly performs at various open mic events across Kerala. She had participated in the prestigious ASISC Cultural Fest and emerged as the state winner in the Western Music category. Anjohn Ajiesh
Musician
Anjohn Ajiesh has 7 years of professional experience in the music industry, with a focus on music programming and production. In his previous role at film production Ooha, he did additional programming for one of the songs. He has experience as a playback singer in the Malayalam film Kammatipaadam. He is a classically trained pianist with ABRSM Grade certification, a trained drummer with LCM Grade 8 distinction, and a Western classical singer with ABRSM Grade certification. He has over 7 years of experience playing the piano and drums and over 5 years of experience singing Western classical music. He is proficient in a variety of musical styles, including classical, jazz, and popular music. He is also a skilled sight-reader and accompanist. In addition, he has been invited to perform at the ABRSM High Scorers Concert, a prestigious event that recognizes the outstanding achievements of ABRSM exam candidates. When he was in seventh grade, he played piano for the band Soulz on the music show Music Mojo on Kappa TV. It was an unforgettable experience that sparked his passion for music.

K. R. Narayanan Chakkiar is a writer and patronage of Kerala performing arts. He graduated in Chemistry from Kerala University, followed by an experience in Pharmaceutical Marketing for more than 4 decades. His strong background in traditional performing art forms of Kerala came through his late father, Kidangoor Raman Chakkiar, exponent of Kutiyattam and recipient of Central Sangeet Nataka Akademi Award (2004), State Govt's Nrithya Natya Puraskar (2011). Narayanan toured extensively leading Kutiyattam troupes in major Indian cities and also to the USA. He has also organized many cultural events. Presently, Narayanan is the Executive Committee member of Thrissur Kathakali Club and Joint Secretary of a cultural organization named "Bharatham." He continues in contributing articles to various vernacular publications about performing arts of Kerala.

Sreekumar Kakkad is an art and literature enthusiast from Kozhikode, Kerala. He completed his Master’s in English Literature and then had a long career in the media field. He was the former producer for news and agriculture in Dooradarshan. Currently, he is a freelance content creator for print as well as visual media. He specializes in areas related to video, sound and graphics production.
CP Mohanan
Visual Artist, Designer
CP Mohanan is an artist known for his creative designs and expertise in scenic design for theater and public events. His artistic works include graphics, painting, sculpting, and illustration. He is known for his large-scale sculptural installations and stage design in major public events of Kerala. One of his favorite works was an art project on an Argentinian novel which was part of the 2018 Kochi-Muziris Biennale. Another notable work is his collaboration with renowned artist and curator Bose Kirshnamachari. He made miniature sculptures for his studio in Mumbai. Many materials like cement, plaster of Paris, wood, foam sheet, cloth, and rug become works of art in the skillful hands of CP Mohanan.

Sreenayan Rathan, a recent graduate in architecture from Avani Institute of Design (2022), is an artist whose creative journey has been shaped by a unique blend of experiences. During his architecture education, he discovered his affinity for exploring colors through various graphic art forms and different styles of drawings. He played a key role in the 'Uruvam' community art project, and he has contributed to the creation of a sculpture installation. From 2018 to 2022, Sreenayan was an integral part of the Avani graphics team with some of his works published by the Institute.

Pournami Chandra is a freelance designer and artist who recently completed her formal architectural education at the Avani Institute of Design in Kerala, graduating in 2022. Her intellectual and creative endeavors span diverse mediums, including art, architecture, literature, research, film, and photography. Pournami is interested in redefining architecture as a way of thinking that works effectively to nurture the interconnectedness of creative practices of varied disciplines. She is currently engaged in multidisciplinary explorations for developing a practice aimed at creating tools for future socio-cultural changes. Her academic journey in architecture school is complemented by her roles as the Editorial Secretary of the Avani Student Council, coordinator for the 'Uruvam Community Art Project,' and designer for the Avani Graphics Team. Currently, she balances her freelance design work with her other personal creative pursuits.

Tejus Asha Rajan is a versatile artist with a rich background in various aspects of the visual arts. From a foundation in experimental theatre and traditional art forms, including Kathakali and classical dance, he evolved into a skilled cinematographer, photographer, editor, and technical coordinator for theatre and film.
His educational background includes a Master's degree in Film Studies and PG Diploma in Cinematography, and he has actively participated in workshops and performances throughout his career. Tejus's extensive portfolio includes short films, theatre productions, and feature films. His passion for visual storytelling continues to drive him as he explores new horizons in the world of media and the performing arts.
Vishnu Shaari
Designer
Vishnu Shaari has substantial experience in art design for cinema and theatre. He completed his undergraduate as well as master’s degree in theatre arts from School of Drama, University of Calicut. Apart from his enthusiasm in theatre, being an ardent movie buff, he has unique taste in cinema, which have helped him being creative in the movie projects he participated in. He has worked in more than sixteen movie projects in Malayalam. Pulimada, Kurup, John Luther, Kumara Sambhavam, and Queen, are his notable ventures. He has collaborated with eminent emerging directors from Malayalam film industry such as Ratheesh Balakrishna Pothuval, AK Sajan, Srinath Rajendran, Rathish Ambat, and V C Abhilash. Apart from his endeavors in cinema, he has participated extensively in theatre productions as well. In theater, he has collaborated with the Public Relation Department of Govt. of Kerala and Nireeksha Women’s Theatre. Vishnu has also conducted various workshops for children covering different aspects of scenic design for theatre funded by Kerala Government Fellowship. Apart from his collaboration in the art department for international advertising agencies, he has worked in commercials in regional language for Malayalam Television channels. Mazhavil Manorama and Flowers TV are some notable television channels he worked with. A notable achievement is his participation in the art department for a telecast for 12 continuous hours by Flowers TV which claimed a Guinness world record. He also writes for screen and stage.
Anand Sachin

Anand Sachin is a student of philosophy currently pursuing PhD in Sree Sankaracharya Sanskrit University, Kalady. His areas of interest include Expanded Cinema, Philosophy of Shamanism, and Psychedelia. He completed a Master’s in philosophy from North Eastern Hills University, Shillong; and another Masters in Arts and Aesthetics from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. He has assisted in research for two documentary projects, one on the cult of Mother Goddess in India for a Pune based production company, another on women practitioners of Kalarippayattu for a Swiss production company. He has penned articles for various journals and magazines in English and Malayalam, in a spectrum of themes ranging from philosophy of Cinema, Mysticism and Religion. He has worked as assistant director for film projects and also participated in theatre productions. His present curiosity is in ancient Chinese philosophy. He is fascinated by the philosophy of Tao, and he finds congruences of it with the Samkhya school of thought in Indian Philosophy. His current favorite books include I-Ching, Tao Te Ching by Lao Tsu, and Art of War by Sun Tsu.
Livin C Lonakutty
Indian Sign Language Interpreter
Livin C. Lonakutty is an Indian Sign Language interpreter. He hails from Thrissur and is among the first few RCI certified ISL interpreters from Kerala. Since 2016 he has been working with Deaf communities. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature and History from Calicut University, Kerala. After completing a Postgraduate Diploma course in Indian Sign Language from Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam, Kerala, he earned A, B and C level certificates in Indian Sign Language Interpreting. He also holds a Master of Social Work degree from Tamil Nadu Open University. He has worked with the Deaf community in more than five states of India. He has been providing sign language services in the fields of education, culture, health, and law. He also served in different Deaf Associations, Sathyabama Institute of Science and Technology, and Govt. Polytechnic College, Kalamassery as an interpreter. He is best known for training Bollywood actress Aditi Rao Hydari in the Malayalam film Sufiyum Sujathayum, and he has also shown his prowess in short screenwriting. He won best screenwriter awards at more than five reputed short film festivals, including the Satyajit Rai International Documentary and Short Film Festival.

School of Drama & Fine Arts, University of Calicut was established in 1977 is a prime institution in India giving academic training in the theatrical and practical aspects of Drama & Theatre. This institution offers B.T.A. (Bachelor of Theatre Arts), M.T.A. (Master of Theatre Arts), M.A. (Music) and M.Phil/Ph.D. The students are exposed to the glorious history of Theatre and different schools of Theatre Practice. The creative aspects of performing arts such as Play Writing, Acting, Direction, Technical Designing, etc. are the thrust areas in the teaching process. Our Classical and Folk traditions are explored here along with the present global trends in contemporary drama. The school organizes international placements. The productions of the School as well as its Alumni now create a new visual idiom and sensibility in Theatre, Film, Media and Academics. G. Sankara Pillai, S. Ramanujam, Kavalam Narayan Panicker, Vayala Vadudevan Pillai, G. Kumara Verma, Venu G, Mokeri Ramachandran, Jalaja Vama, Shibu S. Kottaram, Smt. Najumul Shahi, Vinod Narayanan, S. Sunil, and Sri. Sreejith Ramanan are illustrious personalities who were / are leading forces of the department.
School of Drama is responsible for initiating the modern and contemporary visual language of Malayalam Theatre & film and created a niche in international platforms of theatre and film. By exploring our rich classical and folk tradition, the school of drama produced important theatre productions in the scenario for Indian and world theatre. Department organizes extension programs like workshops for school and university students in national level, physically and mentally differently abled, child homes, correction home, mental health centers and professional and amateur theatre practitioners.
“CULT” - Calicut University Little Theatre is the repertory of the department which produce plays annually and perform in interior areas and important festivals by accommodating alumni. “CART” Children’s Art and Recreational Theatre is a residential workshop for children organized as an annual event. They have had numerous international collaborations with theatre departments and companies of the U.K, United States, Europe, Africa, Asian and South Asian countries. Collaboration with Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademy, in conducting the International theatre festival of Kerala, each year is a prime professional activity of the department. The department collaborated with Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi for conducting a theatre workshop for “Transgenders” for the first time in India - 2018.
Natyashastra Rangapeedom, Katampazhipuram

Natyashastra was established in 1996 March, on the occasion of the 100th birth anniversary of prominent Renaissance leader and social reformer of Kerala, VT Bhattathirippad, by staging a play based on the autobiography of V.T. Bhattathirippad- "Kanneerum Kinavum '' at his birth place. Since then, in a span of 27 years, Natyashastra has created and produced more than twenty-five plays which were performed in numerous platforms including acclaimed theatre festivals inside and out of Kerala.
Natyashastra is also keen on organizing theatre festivals and individual shows of productions of other theatre troupes. Natyashastra have initiated staging of traditional performing art forms like Kuiyattam, Kathakali, and various folk forms. Other cultural programs include film festivals, seminars, percussion instrument festivals, talks, fine art exhibitions. Natyashastra’s permanent performance space “Rangapeetam” had been the platform for these events.
World renowned theatre personalities like Maya Tanberg, Habib Tanvir, Anuradha Kapur, Neelam Man Singh, Nagin Tanvir, Seema Biswas, S. Ramanujam, Kavalam Narayana Panikkar, and Vikram and notable personalities of theatre, Kathakali, and Kutiyattam from Kerala have been present in various programs at Natyashastra in Kadambazhippiram. Natyashastra has curated more than 300 performances in Kadambazhippuram in the span of 27 years, since its conception in 1996. Natyashastra is proud of being able to bring many prominent personalities active in contemporary theatre to the local audience. Natyashastra believes it has achieved to open a new horizon of theatre appreciation through these ventures.
Sreelakam Lifelong Learning Institute
Sopaanam & Sreelakam offers free enrichment programs to the community in chemistry, physics, mathematics, yoga, karate, classical Carnatic music, violin, drawing and painting, classical dances, folk music and dance of Kerala. Numerous programs such as Akshara Sloka Sadassu, poetry workshop, Onam and Christmas celebrations, table tennis and carroms, free medical check-ups, late Prof. Mundassery’s birthday celebrations, Carnatic music (both vocal and instrumental) concerts and Kadhakali performances, and Montessori style Anganwadi are all part of its activities. We also sponsored interdisciplinary quiz programs in several colleges on Nobel Laureates in science and Literature. We wanted to catalytically enhance the literacy in Kerala by expanding our activities with short time living facilities during training programs for students, teachers, and the general public. Our “Sreelakam” is intended to fulfill that dream. Recent recognition of Thrissur as a Learning City by UNESCO has provided further stimulus for our activities since 2010. We wanted to promote philanthropy for the growth of a society, and we have set an example by giving away all our assets to the community for promoting these educational and cultural activities.

An Indian-American and hard-of-hearing choreographer, filmmaker, poet, educator, and Performance Studies scholar, the Founding Director of Folded Paper Dance and Theatre Limited (Hong Kong; Seattle; India), Kanta Kochhar is launching Wild Studios Consulting & Creative Productions, committed to the development of new transdisciplinary practices for our shared futures. She has authored numerous works on performance, disability, ecology, and heritage; produced conferences, symposia, interactive installations, and community events; taught a wide range of Interdisciplinary Studies courses and facilitated workshops and professional development training programmes; and created, choreographed, and directed numerous performances in the US, Europe, and Asia. Her methodology, a combination of ethnography, experimental writing, dance arts, and design practices, critical theory, and storytelling, focuses on how the multisensory can inform a future-looking approach to accessible cultural heritage practices and arts for all through both live and virtual platforms as it expands our capacities to listen to each other and to the earth.
Dr. Kochhar has received numerous awards, including a Fulbright-Nehru Senior Scholar Award (Kerala, India: 2022-2023; Kerala, India: 2017-2018); Hong Kong Arts Development Council Project Grant (2021); Design Trust (Hong Kong: 2022; 2016-2017); Barbican Art School Lab Fellowship (London: 2012); Co-editor/Editor of Theatre Topics (2007-2011); NEH Summer Institute (Disability Studies, 2000); DAAD Award (Disability and the Legacy of Eugenics, 2004); and Artistic Residencies in Middle Tennessee State University (2012); Orissa, India (2011); and Turin, Italy (2010). She is also the author of Hearing Difference: The Third Ear in Experimental, Deaf, and Multicultural Theatre; the lead-editor of The Exquisite Corpse: Chance and Collaboration in Surrealism’s Parlor Game; and former editor of Theatre Topics. Her current writing projects include South Asian Disability and Deaf Theatres (under contract with Routledge); Traveling Exchanges; Ensembles of Innovation; and “The Komagata Maru Incident: Afro-Asian Futurisms.”
With a Ph.D. in Performance Studies from NYU, Kochhar earned her MFA in Dance from the University of North Carolina-Greensboro; her Certificate in Movement Analysis from the Laban/Bartenieff Institute of Movement Studies in New York; an MALS from Wesleyan University (CT); and an undergraduate degree in psychology from Antioch College (Yellow Springs, Ohio). Before moving in other directions, she was tenured as Associate Professor in the School of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences at the University of Washington: Bothell, where she served as both the Co-Director of the Cultural Studies Collective and the Director of the Chancellor’s 2013 Innovation Forum.

Guru Kalamandalam Rama Chakyar
Research Collaborator, Kutiyattam Exponent
Kalamandalam Rama Chakyar has a legacy of three generations to claim in the traditional Sanskrit theater of Kerala Kutiyattam. He followed the footsteps of his grandfather Guru Ammannur Chachu Chakyar and his father Guru Ammannur Parameshwara Chakyar and became a master in Kutiyattam very early in his life. He started his training in Kutiyattam as early as nine years from home in the traditional way- the gurukula sampradayam. He joined Kerala Kalamandalam when he was 15 for institutional learning. He was the first student of Kutiyattam when the faculty for Kutiyattam was launched under the graceful leadership of Painkulam Rama Chakyar. He has also received training under Ammannur Madhava Chakyar and Kidangoor Rama Chakyar.
Performing since 1970, he is a popular presence in national and international performance circuits. He is the sole Kutiyattam exponent who performs all the significant roles of Kutiyattam and the entire repertories of Chakyar Koothu. His international collaborations include performance for festivals of India, Kerala Kalamandalam tours and private tours, and an appointment as a visiting professor at Stony Brook University, USA. Since 1975, he has been a trainer-performer in the faculty of Kutiyattam of Kerala Kalamandalam. He has choreographed and staged classics like Bhasa's "Dootha Vakyam,” Harshavardhanan's "Naganandam" II Act, and Kalidasan's "Swapnavasavadattam." He has translated Shakthibhadra's "Ascharya Choodamani" from Sanskrit to Malayalam. He has also presented and published several academic papers on Kutiyattam.
He has served in several academic and administerial roles. The General Council member (from Kerala) of Sangeet Natak Akademi, Delhi; expert member of the review committee of the Kutiyattam Kendra; Member of the Board of Studies of Sree Sankaracharya University, Kalady; Faculty of Fine Arts, Calicut University; and Advisory Committee member of Kutiyattam Kendra of Sangeet Natak Academy, Delhi are among his most notable roles. His major recognitions and honors include the Kanchi Kamakoti Puraskar in 1971; Margi Gold Medal in 1971; Margi Gold Shield in 1973; Kerala Kalamandalam Award in 2007; State Sangeetha Nadaka Academy Award in 2009; Central Sangeet Natak Academy Award in 2010; Keraleeya Nrithya Natya Puraskar, (which is the highest honor of the State government in 2013); Mannarashala Nagaraja Puraskar in 2018; Sandipani Puraskar in 2023; and the Prathama Athma Mithra Award by Vaidyarathnam in 2023.

Kalamandalam Jishnu Prathap is a talented and notable person among the young Kutiyattam artists in Kerala. His alma-mater is Kerala Kalamandalam, Deemed University for Art and Culture. There, he was blessed to be the disciple of maestros of Kutiyattam, Kalamandalam Ramachakyar and Padmasree Kalamandalam Sivan Namboothiri He started learning Kutiyattam and Chakyarkoothu at the age of twelve alongside his school education and completed a Master’s degree in 2012. Prathap has deftly essayed wide range of roles in Kutiyattam; he is a specialist in enacting certain roles that requires Satvika-Abhinaya such as Ravana, Arjuna, Sugreeva and Jadayu. In addition to the "Prabandhakkoothu," Jishnu is equally adept at performing "Vidooshaka" roles in Bhagavadajjukam and Subhadradhananjayam, which require verbal dexterity, spontaneity, and a great sense of humour.
Jishnu Prathap is a thorough-going artist who stands equally in artistic and academic field. He worked as a guest lecturer in the Department of Kutiyattam at Kerala Kalamandalam for 2 years. In 2015 he established Rangadhwani – A Centre for Kutiyattam at Harippad (Alappuzha) to promote and enlighten Kutiyattam and Mizhavu.
His achievements include being a recipient of Junior Fellowship from Ministry of Culture, Government of India and the Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademy Award for Excellence in Kutiyattam. Other major awards inlcude Painkulam Ramachakyar Award from Kerala Kalamandalam and Kalasagar Puraskar.
Abheeshta Nath JR
Kutiyattam, Kalaripayattu, Theatre Artist
Abheeshta Nath J R is an academician by profession. Theatre and performing arts are her passion. She is trained in Nangiarkuthu and Southern style Kalaripayattu. She has been part of a number of international psychophysical theater workshops and workshop productions, such as with John Britton, Anna Helena MacLean, and Instabili Vaganti. She has performed Nangiarkuthu in prestigious venues like Natyamasikam of Kendra Sangeeth Natak Academy in association with Kutiyattam Kendra. She has won national level championships in women’s category for Kalaripayattu. She nurtures a special interest for Baul music as well.
Anupam Tiwari

Coming from a small town in Madhya Pradesh, Anupam Tiwari completed his postgraduate studies in performing arts at Hyderabad Central University. Tiwari works as a freelance contemporary dancer, actor, and singer. For the past 8 years, he has been a part of IPTA (Indian People’s Theatre Association) and he has conducted workshops, directed plays, and acted in different roles. He has traveled to a number of states throughout India to take acting classes and perform plays with various theatre groups and new individuals. He has participated in different acting and body movements workshops to train himself to become a flexible actor.
Mruthul C.M
Contemporary Dance Artist
Mruthul C.M is a freelance dance artist who is currently exploring and experimenting with movement while specializing in contemporary dance. He collaborated with different artists and actors in the Indian Film industry. Besides performing as a core member in December Dance Festival in Kerala, he taught dance in organizations such as Myself and Mymoves, the largest dance community in Kerala, PRANA, an online dance platform, and others. In addition to being a black belt in SHOTOKAN KARATE, he has also trained in Bharatanatyam and yoga, hip hop, litefeet, breaking, locking, house, and krump from both national and international artists. Furthermore, he has worked as an actor, model and choreographer.

Rohit Xavier is a versatile theatre professional hailing from Kerala and Pondicherry. With a background in Economics, he followed his passion for theatre, earning a bachelor’s degree in Theatre Arts from the School of Drama in Thrissur, Kerala. He is currently pursuing a Master's in Performing Arts at Pondicherry Central University. Sine Rohit's theatrical journey began in 2017, he has been an actor, designer, director, and writer and contributed his talents to nearly 60 productions. He's also a co-founder of Urab Theatre Company, an active member of the Auroville Theatre Group, and has dabbled in film acting and translation work. Rohit's multifaceted skills and unwavering dedication enrich every project he undertakes.

Subheesh ES is a multifaceted theatre artist who comes from an impressive and diverse educational background. He is a graduate from the School of Drama, Thrissur, where he honed his acting skills. Taking his passion further, he pursued a postgraduate degree in Drama from the same institute. He next completed a rigorous three-year diploma course in film acting at the esteemed K.R Narayanan Institute of Visual Science and Arts. This equipped him not only as an actor, but also as a director and acting coach. Following that graduation, he embarked on his professional career and emerged as a renowned actor. His dedication to arts and culture has also led him to a significant role as the District Coordinator of the ongoing Diamond Jubilee Fellowship program, a prestigious initiative under the Department of Cultural affairs, Government of Kerala.

Syam Sasikumar, a native of Palakkad, is a performing artist, actor, and director. He is a skilled performer of Poothan-Thira, a traditional cultural art form performed in Bhagavathi temples across Western Palakkad, Kerala. His family's heritage has a strong connection to the Poothan and Thira art form, making him a dedicated torchbearer of this cultural legacy. He pursued his formal education in BA English Literature at the University of Calicut, but his inclination towards acting began with school and college dramas, and eventually led him to the world of cinema both as an actor and a director. His recent project, "Randamonam," delves into the contemporary political landscape of Kerala, showcasing his prowess as an actor. Notable works in his portfolio include "Randamonam" (short film) and "Bhagavandasante Ramarajyam" (feature film).
Ajiesh Anto Ollukaran

Ajiesh Anto Ollukaran is a musician, music director and instructor based in Thrissur, Kerala. A member of the renowned bands Soulz and Rex, he served as the bassist and the backing vocals from 1997-2003 in Rez. Known for his standout works in music direction and production, he has worked with several distinguished people in the music and film industries. Since 2001, he also runs his music school, David School of Music.
Ajiesh has an extensive understanding of music in its theoretical, pedagogical and practical aspects. He has explored the world of music as a composer, performer, All India Radio-Graded Artist, instructor, and as a designer of his own instrument, the Sigtar—a combination of the Sitar and The Guitar. Notably, he has worked on the music in Malayalam movies such as Salala Mobiles, Ooha,Njan Marykutty, and Saira Banu.

She has developed a strong stage presence and has also performed in numerous stage shows and concerts across India. She is known for her versatile singing style and ability to captivate audiences with her powerful vocals. She is passionate about music and is constantly exploring new genres and styles. She regularly performs at various open mic events across Kerala. She had participated in the prestigious ASISC Cultural Fest and emerged as the state winner in the Western Music category. Anjohn Ajiesh
Musician
Anjohn Ajiesh has 7 years of professional experience in the music industry, with a focus on music programming and production. In his previous role at film production Ooha, he did additional programming for one of the songs. He has experience as a playback singer in the Malayalam film Kammatipaadam. He is a classically trained pianist with ABRSM Grade certification, a trained drummer with LCM Grade 8 distinction, and a Western classical singer with ABRSM Grade certification. He has over 7 years of experience playing the piano and drums and over 5 years of experience singing Western classical music. He is proficient in a variety of musical styles, including classical, jazz, and popular music. He is also a skilled sight-reader and accompanist. In addition, he has been invited to perform at the ABRSM High Scorers Concert, a prestigious event that recognizes the outstanding achievements of ABRSM exam candidates. When he was in seventh grade, he played piano for the band Soulz on the music show Music Mojo on Kappa TV. It was an unforgettable experience that sparked his passion for music.

K. R. Narayanan Chakkiar is a writer and patronage of Kerala performing arts. He graduated in Chemistry from Kerala University, followed by an experience in Pharmaceutical Marketing for more than 4 decades. His strong background in traditional performing art forms of Kerala came through his late father, Kidangoor Raman Chakkiar, exponent of Kutiyattam and recipient of Central Sangeet Nataka Akademi Award (2004), State Govt's Nrithya Natya Puraskar (2011). Narayanan toured extensively leading Kutiyattam troupes in major Indian cities and also to the USA. He has also organized many cultural events. Presently, Narayanan is the Executive Committee member of Thrissur Kathakali Club and Joint Secretary of a cultural organization named "Bharatham." He continues in contributing articles to various vernacular publications about performing arts of Kerala.

Sreekumar Kakkad is an art and literature enthusiast from Kozhikode, Kerala. He completed his Master’s in English Literature and then had a long career in the media field. He was the former producer for news and agriculture in Dooradarshan. Currently, he is a freelance content creator for print as well as visual media. He specializes in areas related to video, sound and graphics production.
CP Mohanan
Visual Artist, Designer
CP Mohanan is an artist known for his creative designs and expertise in scenic design for theater and public events. His artistic works include graphics, painting, sculpting, and illustration. He is known for his large-scale sculptural installations and stage design in major public events of Kerala. One of his favorite works was an art project on an Argentinian novel which was part of the 2018 Kochi-Muziris Biennale. Another notable work is his collaboration with renowned artist and curator Bose Kirshnamachari. He made miniature sculptures for his studio in Mumbai. Many materials like cement, plaster of Paris, wood, foam sheet, cloth, and rug become works of art in the skillful hands of CP Mohanan.

Sreenayan Rathan, a recent graduate in architecture from Avani Institute of Design (2022), is an artist whose creative journey has been shaped by a unique blend of experiences. During his architecture education, he discovered his affinity for exploring colors through various graphic art forms and different styles of drawings. He played a key role in the 'Uruvam' community art project, and he has contributed to the creation of a sculpture installation. From 2018 to 2022, Sreenayan was an integral part of the Avani graphics team with some of his works published by the Institute.

Pournami Chandra is a freelance designer and artist who recently completed her formal architectural education at the Avani Institute of Design in Kerala, graduating in 2022. Her intellectual and creative endeavors span diverse mediums, including art, architecture, literature, research, film, and photography. Pournami is interested in redefining architecture as a way of thinking that works effectively to nurture the interconnectedness of creative practices of varied disciplines. She is currently engaged in multidisciplinary explorations for developing a practice aimed at creating tools for future socio-cultural changes. Her academic journey in architecture school is complemented by her roles as the Editorial Secretary of the Avani Student Council, coordinator for the 'Uruvam Community Art Project,' and designer for the Avani Graphics Team. Currently, she balances her freelance design work with her other personal creative pursuits.

Tejus Asha Rajan is a versatile artist with a rich background in various aspects of the visual arts. From a foundation in experimental theatre and traditional art forms, including Kathakali and classical dance, he evolved into a skilled cinematographer, photographer, editor, and technical coordinator for theatre and film.
His educational background includes a Master's degree in Film Studies and PG Diploma in Cinematography, and he has actively participated in workshops and performances throughout his career. Tejus's extensive portfolio includes short films, theatre productions, and feature films. His passion for visual storytelling continues to drive him as he explores new horizons in the world of media and the performing arts.
Vishnu Shaari
Designer
Vishnu Shaari has substantial experience in art design for cinema and theatre. He completed his undergraduate as well as master’s degree in theatre arts from School of Drama, University of Calicut. Apart from his enthusiasm in theatre, being an ardent movie buff, he has unique taste in cinema, which have helped him being creative in the movie projects he participated in. He has worked in more than sixteen movie projects in Malayalam. Pulimada, Kurup, John Luther, Kumara Sambhavam, and Queen, are his notable ventures. He has collaborated with eminent emerging directors from Malayalam film industry such as Ratheesh Balakrishna Pothuval, AK Sajan, Srinath Rajendran, Rathish Ambat, and V C Abhilash. Apart from his endeavors in cinema, he has participated extensively in theatre productions as well. In theater, he has collaborated with the Public Relation Department of Govt. of Kerala and Nireeksha Women’s Theatre. Vishnu has also conducted various workshops for children covering different aspects of scenic design for theatre funded by Kerala Government Fellowship. Apart from his collaboration in the art department for international advertising agencies, he has worked in commercials in regional language for Malayalam Television channels. Mazhavil Manorama and Flowers TV are some notable television channels he worked with. A notable achievement is his participation in the art department for a telecast for 12 continuous hours by Flowers TV which claimed a Guinness world record. He also writes for screen and stage.
Anand Sachin

Anand Sachin is a student of philosophy currently pursuing PhD in Sree Sankaracharya Sanskrit University, Kalady. His areas of interest include Expanded Cinema, Philosophy of Shamanism, and Psychedelia. He completed a Master’s in philosophy from North Eastern Hills University, Shillong; and another Masters in Arts and Aesthetics from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. He has assisted in research for two documentary projects, one on the cult of Mother Goddess in India for a Pune based production company, another on women practitioners of Kalarippayattu for a Swiss production company. He has penned articles for various journals and magazines in English and Malayalam, in a spectrum of themes ranging from philosophy of Cinema, Mysticism and Religion. He has worked as assistant director for film projects and also participated in theatre productions. His present curiosity is in ancient Chinese philosophy. He is fascinated by the philosophy of Tao, and he finds congruences of it with the Samkhya school of thought in Indian Philosophy. His current favorite books include I-Ching, Tao Te Ching by Lao Tsu, and Art of War by Sun Tsu.
Livin C Lonakutty
Indian Sign Language Interpreter
Livin C. Lonakutty is an Indian Sign Language interpreter. He hails from Thrissur and is among the first few RCI certified ISL interpreters from Kerala. Since 2016 he has been working with Deaf communities. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature and History from Calicut University, Kerala. After completing a Postgraduate Diploma course in Indian Sign Language from Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam, Kerala, he earned A, B and C level certificates in Indian Sign Language Interpreting. He also holds a Master of Social Work degree from Tamil Nadu Open University. He has worked with the Deaf community in more than five states of India. He has been providing sign language services in the fields of education, culture, health, and law. He also served in different Deaf Associations, Sathyabama Institute of Science and Technology, and Govt. Polytechnic College, Kalamassery as an interpreter. He is best known for training Bollywood actress Aditi Rao Hydari in the Malayalam film Sufiyum Sujathayum, and he has also shown his prowess in short screenwriting. He won best screenwriter awards at more than five reputed short film festivals, including the Satyajit Rai International Documentary and Short Film Festival.

Venue and Accessible Theater Program Collaboration
School of Drama & Fine Arts, University of Calicut was established in 1977 is a prime institution in India giving academic training in the theatrical and practical aspects of Drama & Theatre. This institution offers B.T.A. (Bachelor of Theatre Arts), M.T.A. (Master of Theatre Arts), M.A. (Music) and M.Phil/Ph.D. The students are exposed to the glorious history of Theatre and different schools of Theatre Practice. The creative aspects of performing arts such as Play Writing, Acting, Direction, Technical Designing, etc. are the thrust areas in the teaching process. Our Classical and Folk traditions are explored here along with the present global trends in contemporary drama. The school organizes international placements. The productions of the School as well as its Alumni now create a new visual idiom and sensibility in Theatre, Film, Media and Academics. G. Sankara Pillai, S. Ramanujam, Kavalam Narayan Panicker, Vayala Vadudevan Pillai, G. Kumara Verma, Venu G, Mokeri Ramachandran, Jalaja Vama, Shibu S. Kottaram, Smt. Najumul Shahi, Vinod Narayanan, S. Sunil, and Sri. Sreejith Ramanan are illustrious personalities who were / are leading forces of the department.
School of Drama is responsible for initiating the modern and contemporary visual language of Malayalam Theatre & film and created a niche in international platforms of theatre and film. By exploring our rich classical and folk tradition, the school of drama produced important theatre productions in the scenario for Indian and world theatre. Department organizes extension programs like workshops for school and university students in national level, physically and mentally differently abled, child homes, correction home, mental health centers and professional and amateur theatre practitioners.
“CULT” - Calicut University Little Theatre is the repertory of the department which produce plays annually and perform in interior areas and important festivals by accommodating alumni. “CART” Children’s Art and Recreational Theatre is a residential workshop for children organized as an annual event. They have had numerous international collaborations with theatre departments and companies of the U.K, United States, Europe, Africa, Asian and South Asian countries. Collaboration with Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademy, in conducting the International theatre festival of Kerala, each year is a prime professional activity of the department. The department collaborated with Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi for conducting a theatre workshop for “Transgenders” for the first time in India - 2018.

Natyashastra was established in 1996 March, on the occasion of the 100th birth anniversary of prominent Renaissance leader and social reformer of Kerala, VT Bhattathirippad, by staging a play based on the autobiography of V.T. Bhattathirippad- "Kanneerum Kinavum '' at his birth place. Since then, in a span of 27 years, Natyashastra has created and produced more than twenty-five plays which were performed in numerous platforms including acclaimed theatre festivals inside and out of Kerala.
Natyashastra is also keen on organizing theatre festivals and individual shows of productions of other theatre troupes. Natyashastra have initiated staging of traditional performing art forms like Kuiyattam, Kathakali, and various folk forms. Other cultural programs include film festivals, seminars, percussion instrument festivals, talks, fine art exhibitions. Natyashastra’s permanent performance space “Rangapeetam” had been the platform for these events.
World renowned theatre personalities like Maya Tanberg, Habib Tanvir, Anuradha Kapur, Neelam Man Singh, Nagin Tanvir, Seema Biswas, S. Ramanujam, Kavalam Narayana Panikkar, and Vikram and notable personalities of theatre, Kathakali, and Kutiyattam from Kerala have been present in various programs at Natyashastra in Kadambazhippiram. Natyashastra has curated more than 300 performances in Kadambazhippuram in the span of 27 years, since its conception in 1996. Natyashastra is proud of being able to bring many prominent personalities active in contemporary theatre to the local audience. Natyashastra believes it has achieved to open a new horizon of theatre appreciation through these ventures.
Sreelakam Lifelong Learning Institute
Sopaanam & Sreelakam offers free enrichment programs to the community in chemistry, physics, mathematics, yoga, karate, classical Carnatic music, violin, drawing and painting, classical dances, folk music and dance of Kerala. Numerous programs such as Akshara Sloka Sadassu, poetry workshop, Onam and Christmas celebrations, table tennis and carroms, free medical check-ups, late Prof. Mundassery’s birthday celebrations, Carnatic music (both vocal and instrumental) concerts and Kadhakali performances, and Montessori style Anganwadi are all part of its activities. We also sponsored interdisciplinary quiz programs in several colleges on Nobel Laureates in science and Literature. We wanted to catalytically enhance the literacy in Kerala by expanding our activities with short time living facilities during training programs for students, teachers, and the general public. Our “Sreelakam” is intended to fulfill that dream. Recent recognition of Thrissur as a Learning City by UNESCO has provided further stimulus for our activities since 2010. We wanted to promote philanthropy for the growth of a society, and we have set an example by giving away all our assets to the community for promoting these educational and cultural activities.
